Bring in a strand of holiday lights to recycle and get a set of LED lights for free! Donate a non-perishable food item to receive a free holiday light timer!
LED holiday light exchange, available now!

As we enter the holiday season, Stoughton Utilities is reminding our customers about the benefits and advantages of energy efficient lighting options to help customers trim their holiday energy bill. This year, upgrade your lights and celebrate safely and economically!

We recommend replacing traditional holiday lights with a more energy efficient lighting option to decorate the home or business, such as compact fluorescent (CFL) or light-emitting diode (LED) lights. Compared to standard incandescent holiday lights, LED lights offer several advantages. LED holiday lights use up to 90 percent less energy to produce the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs, cost significantly less to operate, and last longer than standard lights. LEDs and CFLs also emit much less heat than traditional lights, greatly reducing the risk of fire hazards, and do not have the same components that cause traditional lights to burn out or combust.

By combining your LED holiday lights with indoor and outdoor timers, you never have to step outside or reach around a tree to turn your decorations on or off. Not only is this convenient, but it can also save energy by ensuring you never again forget to turn your lights off at the end of the evening.

To help you get started, we’ll give you a strand of LED holiday lights and a holiday light timer for free!
Now through December 21, while supplies last, Stoughton Utilities customers can bring in a strand of incandescent holiday lights to our office to recycle, and in exchange you will receive a strand of new, energy efficient LED holiday lights. Both multi-colored and white LED lights are available, and new for 2017 you have your choice of either standard or mini size bulbs.

Also new for 2017, we are collecting non-perishable food donations for the Stoughton Food Pantry. If you bring in one or more food items, you will receive your choice of an indoor or outdoor holiday light timer.

This offer is limited to up to one strand of exchanged LED lights and one holiday light timer per utility account, during our regular office hours now through December 21, 2017, while supplies last.

Always celebrate safely
Stoughton Utilities also wants customers to be aware of safe operating practices for all types of holiday lighting. To start, home and business owners should always remember to turn off tree and decorative lights, both indoors and outdoors. Control devices like motion sensors, timers and power strips are a great way to ensure decorative lights are off. With numerous types and brands of holiday lights available, it is also important to read safety and use directions carefully to ensure lights and decorations are used appropriately and for the intended and approved purpose.

Remember to follow these important electrical safety tips during the holidays!
